Foreign Film Series

A selection of classic and modern foreign films on the big screen in the large auditorium of the Main Library; all showtimes are 2pm.

flowersOctober 13 – “The Flowers of War” (2011, R; Chinese, Japanese, and Mandarin with English subtitles)  Director Zhang Yimou tells a story of a Westerner who leads a group of women to safety during the Japanese invasion of Nanjing, China, in 1937.

orphanageOctober 27 – “The Orphanage” (2007, R; Spanish with English subtitles) This thriller follows a young mother who returns to the orphanage where she grew up. Her young son develops imaginary friends and draws disturbing pictures that mirror nightmares from her childhood.

tsotsiDecember 8  – “Tsotsi” (2005, R; English, Zulu, Khosa, and Afrikaans with English subtitles) This Academy Award-winning film traces 6 days in the lonely, violent life of Tsotsi, a ruthless young gang leader in South Africa.

dinnerDecember 22 – “The Dinner Game” (1998, PG13; French with English subtitles) This comedy follows a lowly accountant who has been invited to a dinner party but is unaware that he has been included solely for his hosts’ cruel amusement.
