How does Diane Setterfield use gothic conventions to suit her purposes in The Thirteenth Tale?

In keeping with Margaret’s stated affection for 19th century novels, some say the book pays homage to The Woman in White, Rebecca, Jane Eyre, and Wuthering Heights. How? Is the Thirteenth Tale worthy of being considered same genre as these books?
