Wrapping up: The Catcher in the Rye

Thanks for reading The Catcher in the Rye with me this month — it’s interesting for me to re-read this book because I feel like I get something new out of it each time.

If you’ve read the book before, what did you think of this second (or third?) reading? If you hadn’t read the book before, does it live up to the reputation surrounding it?

Banned Books Week is Sept. 26-Oct. 3 and J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye is a commonly challenged book in some schools and libraries because of it’s language and content (it was ranked third on the list of most frequently challenged books as recently as 2005). What are your thoughts on this?

  1. I think it’s a very revolutionary book. In a certain way, it reminds me of On the Road. As the Korouac Magnum Opus, “The Catcher” gives you sense of a free world, where you can start walking and end up in wherever you want.
I don’t know, but this book is somewhat freeing.
