OT: Garage Bands at APL, Friday, 7/17

Live indie rock is back at Albany Public Library on July 17 for this summer’s second Garage Bands in the Garage concert. Local bands We are Jeneric and Space Lounge perform at the Main Library on Friday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. The award-winning indie rock concert series is in its third year at Albany Public Library.

The free, all-ages, after-hours rock show takes place in the garage of the Main Library at 161 Washington Avenue. The garage is in the back of the building, off of Elk Street. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring chairs and a picnic dinner.

Albany-area band We are Jeneric has put out two CDs of indie-folk rock, with another (“People are Animals Too”) to be released this summer. Space Lounge, a Catskill-area duo backed live by other musicians, describes its music as “space pop” and counts Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa as influences.

Media partner for the 2009 Garage Bands in the Garage concert series is radio station WEXT 97.7 FM and specializes in local music.

In addition to the musical performances, the Garage Bands in the Garage concert features:

CD Garage Sale in the Garage—Buy used CDs retired from the library’s vast collection for just $1 each, or $1 for a grab bag of mystery CDs without cases.

The Big Purple Bus (aka Bookmobile)—Get an Albany Public Library card and check out materials from the Bookmobile.

The remaining Garage Bands in the Garage concerts are:
August 21 featuring Tern Rounders and The Black Fuel
September 18 featuring Red Haired Strangers and Rattling Baddlies
