The Time Traveler’s Wife: why that title?

Why do you think Audrey Niffenegger titled her book The Time Traveler’s Wife and not a title that included both Henry and Clare?

  1. It could be that “the time traveler’s wife” refers to inner time, as the quote in the front of the book calls it (“Clock time is our bank manager, tax collector, police inspector; this inner time is our wife.” — J.B. Priestley, Man and Time) and not Clare at all, because Henry (and Clare) are in a sense “wedded” to their respective timelines, his jumpy and hers linear.
