The Keep: an example of modern gothic?

How much do you agree with the assessment of Jennifer Egan’s The Keep as an example of the modern gothic novel? Is simply the appearance of traditional gothic characteristics like haunted houses, ghosts, secrets, madness and decay enough to warrant that label? Why or why not?
